EXAM PLACES WILL BE ANNOUNCED BY SFL.
Undergraduate and Associate English Programme Exemption Exams
*** An exemption exam is administered at the beginning of each semester (excluding summer semester) only for freshman English courses for the respective semester in undergraduate and associate programs. Exemption exam is not administered for third and fourth grade English courses in undergraduate programs.
***Students, who have taken these courses before and failed, are not allowed to take the exemption exams.
*** Passing grade for the Undergraduate and Associate English Program exemption exam is 70 (CC).
*** The Undergraduate or Associate English exemption exam cannot be taken to improve grades. Those wishing to improve their grades need to repeat their courses.
*** Students, who wish to take the exemption exam, need to enroll to English course first. Then, undergraduate students need to apply to the SFL Directorate and associate students need to apply to Vocational Schools English Coordinatorship in writing.
*** Students, who are not satisfied with their exemption exam grade may waive their exemption right and take the course in question by applying to the Student Affairs Directorate in writing.
*** The grade obtained at the end of the semester will be counted as the final grade for students, who are not satisfied with their exemption exam grade even though they are exempt, and take the course.
Students, who meet the following requirements can take the exemption exam:
1- Students are allowed to take the exemption exams for Associate/Undergraduate first year English courses if they had taken a similar course at an undergraduate, associate program of a different university, got successful but did not get exempt from the course due to mismatches of program content.
2- Students, who successfully complete the “Pre-Faculty” Module of Compulsory English Preparatory program and score 80 and above in proficiency in English exam, are allowed to take the exemption exam for courses ENG 101 and ENG 102.
3- Students, whose native language is English, or who completed their education at secondary education institutions at a country where the official spoken language is English and the citizens of that country also attend those institutions, or students who graduated from an English medium secondary education institution, may take the exemption exam for associate/undergraduate English courses if they wish and provide certificates.
4- Students, who successfully complete B Module in optional English Preparatory education in Turkish medium programs, are allowed to take exemption exam.
5- Students enrolled in Turkish medium programs who passed the proficiency in English exam administered at the beginning of the academic year and those who completed the optional prep program successfully and passed the proficiency exam, are exempted from freshman English courses.
