HUNDRED PERCENT EUROPEAN
The European Association for Quality Language Services (EAQUALS), which is among the most important institutions that certify the quality of foreign language education in Europe, awarded Izmir University of Economics, School of Foreign Languages with the quality certificate.
Izmir University of Economics, School of Foreign Languages successfully completed the accreditation process required by EAQUALS, and became entitled to receive the quality certificate in foreign language education. Izmir University of Economics, where the medium of instruction is one hundred percent English in all departments, became the only university in Turkey to be awarded with the accreditation certificate by EAQUALS.
School of Foreign Languages, with approximately 6 thousand 300 hundred students and 200 instructors, successfully completed the accreditation process after being inspected in English Preparatory, Undergraduate English Programme, and Second Foreign Languages programs. School of Foreign Languages was especially found above the standards in quality of the teaching staff, measurement and assessment systems, and academic management, and became entitled to receive “excellence” award.
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, who stated that Izmir University of Economics proved its quality with Bologna process, and ECTS label after that, said that School of Foreign Languages has crowned this success with this accreditation. Prof. Dr. Baltacıoğlu pointed out the importance of success and quality of education in all aspects of the education. He said, “Our efforts regarding improving the quality of education which started with Bologna process, are increasing each day. The quality and accreditation certificates we are awarded with do not only prove the quality of the education we offer, they are also a significant criterion for the success of our students. I would like to congratulate the faculty members in making us entitled for being the first university in Turkey to achieve this success.”
Asst. Prof. Dr. Evrim Üstünlüoğlu, Director of School of Foreign Languages, stated that it was a major accomplishment to be accredited in all 3 programs they applied for. She said, “We succeeded in achieving a 4 year accreditation for all the programs we applied for following a difficult inspection process. Along with teacher development, measurement and assessment systems, curriculum and material development units, a well-structured performance evaluation system are being emphasized in the inspection report. The fact that the education we offer to our students being proven with this report is a great honour for us. We will continue to work to maintain the existing standards and further the success of our school.”

The European Association for Quality Language Services is a very significant institution that certifies the quality of foreign language education in Europe. EAQUALS grants accreditation by inspecting areas such as education and training, curriculum development, measurement and assessment, academic management, academic resources, benefits for staff and students, quality of the teaching staff, communication, and corporate infrastructure.
