SCHOOL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES
Second Foreign Language Program
A Feel of Don Quixote
On Wednesday December the 2nd at 18:30 hours the Spanish Department organized a musical activity for the students. The Belcorde Duo musicians (Manuel Briega-violin and Adrián Fernández-guitar), hailing from Don Quixote's homeland of La Mancha themselves, played music from the time of Cervantes. The pieces spanned the late Renaissance in Spain up to the transition to the Baroque forms in Italy. The program included both anonymous traditional dances alluded to by Cervantes in his own writings, and pieces from reputed composers such as Georg Philipp Telemann's Don Quixote suite. The descriptions of the music were translated into Turkish by our colleague Víctor González from the Spanish Department. The event was attended by the Culture and Education Attaché of the Spanish embassy, Mr. José María Davó Cabra and the Honorary Consul of Spain in Izmir, Mr. Muharrem Kayhan, together with the Head of Foreign Languages of our institution, Asst. Prof. Dr. Evrim Üstünloğlu.
