The Compulsory Second Foreign Language program, which lasts for four (4) semesters, aims to make students achieve level A2 in the scope of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The attendance to 2nd FL courses is mandatory as specified in the IUE regulations.

There are various numbers and types of (determined by SFL) mid-terms, quizzes, oral exams, presentations, and final exams for 2nd FL courses. Mid-term, quiz, oral exam, participation, and presentation scores along with final exam score are taken into consideration in determining the pass grade for 2nd FL courses.

The Compulsory Second Foreign Language course from a previous semester is a prerequisite of the Compulsory Second Foreign Language course from the next semester. Student needs to get at least a grade of DD from the Compulsory 2nd FL course from a previous semester in order to enroll to second foreign language courses. Prerequisites of elective second foreign language courses are determined by the Senate.

They are good for life, not like TOEFL which is only good for a specific period.

Students taking a Compulsory 2nd FL course who submit a level of B1 or higher level language certificate, will receive “AA” on their transcript, and students who submit a level of A2 language certificate will receive “EX (Exempt)” on their transcript, and these students will be exempt from these courses. However, if they wish, these students may take the exemption exam administered at the beginning of each semester or enroll to the course.

You might have different lecturers each semester depending on the course schedule.

You may refer to “Announcements” on main page of IUE (www.ieu.edu.tr)

The students have to purchase the course materials specified by the lecturers.
