Aim, Scope, Basis and Definitions
Article 1 - The purpose of this regulation is to clarify the aims, activities, administrative bodies and functions of the Gender Studies Research Center.
Article 2 - This regulation includes the issues relating to the aims, activities, administrative bodies and functions of Gender Studies Research Center.
Article 3 - This regulation has been prepared in accordance with law number 2547 dated 4/11/1981, Item 1, options (d), and number (2), and Article 14 of the Higher Education Law.
Article 4 - The terms stipulated in this directive;
a) Center: refers to the Izmir University of Economics Gender Studies Research Center
b) Director: refers to the Director of the Izmir University of Economics Gender Studies Research Center
c) Rector: refers to the Rector of the Izmir University of Economics
d) University: refers to the Izmir University of Economics
e) Board of Directors: refers to the Board of Directors of the Izmir University of Economics Gender Studies Research Center.
The Aim of the Center, The Fields of Activity of the Center
The Aim of the Center
Article 5 - The aim of the center is to make researches and carry out educational activities about the problems of the women in Turkey and abroad, to make scientific researches and cultural projects about the gender problems of the women living in Turkey and abroad in the fields of education, culture, politics, business/economics, law and health and to administer their implementation, to make national and international academic studies and applications supporting women to take part in society as an efficient and productive individuals who contribute to life in all fields-social, political, legal, economics on micro and macro level without being exposed to sex discrimination, and to support education programs aimed at gender and problems of women.
The Fields of Activity of the Center
Article 6 - The fields of activity of the center are;
a) To publish research reports, articles and books,
b) To make cooperation with the similar institutions abroad and make student and academician exchanges,
c) To take part in joint research projects by following the funds for supporting these subjects of the national and international institutions, to follow and apply gender studies in global standards,
ç) To create a section in the University library about gender and women's studies and to establish an archive on this subject,
d) To organize conferences and seminars,
e) To prepare case studies,
f) To make joint projects and to give consultancy services on related topics by cooperating with public or private sector institutions and organizations; to organize seminars, conferences, congresses, symposiums, panels and any kind of scientific meetings on the cooperated subjects to educate the personnel of the public or private sector institutions and organizations at every level,
g) To make researches that enable the women and girls to complete their compulsory education programs and to support projects aimed at increasing education and accommodation opportunities of the girls,
ğ) To make and support studies for the contribution of women and girls to production and employment; besides the academic researches in this context, to make projects intended for business world and especially for the small-scale enterprises and family-owned businesses that socio-economically support women entrepreneurship and to make researches that aim to develop business administration education, to organize business ideas and business plan competitions promoting women entrepreneurship,
h) To produce projects and to work jointly with the student clubs established within the University in order to give support to the students to implement their creative ideas,
ı) To make projects and improvement studies for the women to benefit from civic services in the most appropriate and highest level,
i) To make researches about the analysis and solution of the female-specific health problems, to support projects and studies intended for the women to benefit from the health and social security services at best,
j) To make projects and studies aimed at the education of the public about the rights of women and girls, preventing women and girls from being exposed to violence and protecting the ones who are exposed to violence,
k) To support the projects that try to find solutions for socio-economical problems and the problems, which occur from immigration and poverty,
l) To make cooperation with agencies and institutes about problems of women,
m) To prepare course contents for master’s and doctoral programs about related subjects, to help master’s and doctoral students for their education, to provide opportunity for the applied studies that will contribute to such social problems.
Branches of the Center and Their Duties

Article 7 - The centre consists of the following branches:
b) Board of Directors,
c) Advisory Board.
Director and his/her Duties
Article 8 - The Director of the Center is appointed by the Rector from the University lecturers for a term of two years. Director of the Center is assigned by the Rector among the lecturers for two years period. Upon the request of the Director of the Center, two people among the lecturers are assigned by the Rector as Vice-Director for three years period. When the Director of the Center is absent, one of the Vice-Directors substitutes him/her. Period of substitution do not exceed six months.
Director of the Center is the President of the Board of Directors. When the assignment period of the Director of the Center expires, s/he can be reassigned.
The duties of the Director of the Center are to call Board of Directors of the Center to a meeting, to implement the working program and the decisions taken by the Board of Directors of the Center, to supervise the activities, to direct the Center in accordance with its aims, to prepare the annual activity report of the Center and submit it to the Board of Directors of the Center.
Board of Directors and Its Duties
Article 9 - Board of Directors of the Center is made up of totally five people four are assigned among the Board of Directors, Director of the Center and lecturers of the University, all of whom are appointed by the Rector. The term of office of the Board of Directors members is three years. The members whose assignment period expires may be reassigned. New members may be assigned to conclude the period of the members who leave before their assignments expire.
Board of Directors of the Center gathers at least once a month upon the invitation of the Director of the Center and they revise the activities of the Center and take decisions about the related subjects. Board of Directors of the Center gathers with absolute majority and the decisions are taken by majority of votes.
The Duty of the Board of Directors of the Center is to ascertain the bases regarding the arrangement of the activity report that the Director of the Center will prepare at the end of each activity period, evaluate the presented report, discuss, and adjudicate the working program of the next period.
Advisory Board and Its Duties
Article 10 - Advisory Board is made up of nine people at most, who make studies about gender and women in the University or in the institutions outside the University, they are selected by the Administrative Board and assigned by the Rector. The term of office of the Advisory Board Members is one year. Advisory Board gathers at least once on a date determined by the Director, under the presidency of the Director, a majority is not needed for the meetings.
The duties of the Advisory Board are to contribute to the studies of the Center with its views and suggestions and to make contribution for supporting and implementing the research projects in line with the activities of the Center.
Article 11 - This directive takes effect on the date it is published.
Article 12 - The Rector of the Izmir University of Economics implements the rules and regulations of this policy.
