Course Objectives The social and cultural structure of the German-speaking countries (society, life style, education system, culture and art) to students and these issues Students' own ideas and opinions about learning four basic languages Based on his ability (reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension) It is intended that they can specify.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • read and understand texts on topics such as society and education in Germany.
  • express themselves verbally using the general knowledge they have acquired when traveling to German speaking countries.
  • follow listening texts about culture and art.
  • define and discuss the main points about cultural and artistic issues in written texts.
  • correspond with Standard German at A2.1 level.
Course Description This course is designed to prepare students for subjects related to the history, geography, social and cultural structure of German-speaking countries.

WEEKLY SUBJECTS AND RELATED PREPARATION STUDIES

1 Getting to know the students, introducing meeting hours and Syllabus with its rules. Giving information about text books and resources to be used and emphasizing the importance of phonics and pronunciation. Giving information about the activities that will take place during the semester (Theatre, Movies)
2 Subject: Family life in Germany (Familie und Freunde) Pre-study on German family life, reading subject related text and learning the vocabulary before class
3 Social behavior: Short film “Schwarzfahrer” Watching the short film and learning the vocabulary
4 Subject: Society, people, and locations (Page 10) Reading the text in the course book
5 Subject: Historical buildings and locations in Germany Surfing the internet to find out where and in which cities the historical buildings and locations are at, and collecting information about a choice of a location
6 Historical Film: Sophie Scholl Presentation: Mein Deutschland Watching the film before class
7 Religious and official holidays in Germany and Celebrations (Presentation) Researching about environmental policy of Germany and highlighting the words
8 Germany’s environment policy Geografie Deutschlands im Überblick (Zur Orientierung- Quiz) Umweltpolitik in Deutschland Getting information about the geographical structure of Germany before class
9 World Famous Germans Preparing the type of presentation on choice of their famous person
10 Subject: Traffic and transportation Problems in traffic Most widely used means of transportation in Germany Learning the subject related vocabulary
11 Subject: Activities: In which fields do the youth volunteer for? Reading the text
12 Subject: Practice Holidays and celebrations Researching about religious and official holidays of Germans
