Individualized PD

The School of Foreign Languages has adopted an individualized approach to professional development. Trainers from the Teacher Development Unit (TDU) work with instructors to identify areas for professional growth based on their experiences, classroom challenges, self-reflection, and students’ needs. With facilitation from trainers throughout the academic year, instructors design and implement professional development projects, either individually or in small groups.

Sample projects include:

• Attitudes toward the use of L1 in the classroom
• Effective methods for giving feedback on student writing
• Examination of the habits of successful and unsuccessful students
• Exploration of digital classroom resources
• Materials development
• Teacher satisfaction and motivation
• Team teaching and reflection
• Video peer and self-observation and reflection
