Welcome
Hello,
It is highly important for our students to have enough knowledge about the political and economic situation of our country and its relationship with other countries, as Turkey is on the verge of joining the EU. Therefore, Izmir University of Economics aims to teach a second foreign language, besides English, to enable the students to gain knowledge in these areas and help them build constructive arguments. For this purpose, IUE School of Foreign Languages offers courses in French, Italian, German, Russian, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.
Introduction to the Program
The Compulsory Second Foreign Language Education is two years. Course programs are prepared on a two year basis; failures in second foreign languages may delay graduation. Four hours are allocated weekly per course. Each semester one mid-term, one oral exam, one final exam, one presentation (third and fourth year students) and two quizzes are conducted. They are 3 local (4 ECTS) credit courses.
Aim
At the end of a two year program which consists of 224 hours, the students will be able to easily read, write and understand the texts. They will be able to express themselves on current issues and in occupational subjects in their field of study.
According to the Common European Framework of Languages Criteria, a successful foreign language student will be at A2 level at the end of a 2 year program and will be able to certify this in official examinations conducted for that language.
