Individualized PD

The School of Foreign Languages has adopted an individualized approach to professional development. CCPL members work with instructors to identify areas for professional growth based on their experiences, classroom challenges, self-reflection, and students’ needs. With facilitation from trainers throughout the academic year, instructors design and implement professional development projects, either individually or in small groups.

Sample projects include:

• Alternative assessment
• Attitudes toward the use of L1 in the classroom
• Effective methods for giving feedback on student writing
• Examination of the habits of successful and unsuccessful students
• Exploration of digital classroom resources
• Materials development
• Teacher satisfaction and motivation
• Team teaching and reflection
• Video peer and self-observation and reflection

To support this individualized PD model, we also curate teacher-research documents that illustrate how instructors turn classroom questions into focused, evidence-informed inquiry. The four sample reports below highlight different project designs, data sources, and practical outcomes that can inspire your own PD journey. You are welcome to use these examples as templates as you plan, implement, and reflect on your project across the academic year.
