Exemption Exam Information for ENG/ING-Coded English Courses for Students Who Registered Late Due to the ÖSYM Placement Schedule

Dear Students,

The conditions regarding eligibility to take the exemption exams from first-year compulsory ENG/ING-coded English courses for undergraduate and associate degree students who registered late at our university are summarized below. Students who are eligible to take an exemption exam must apply by sending an email to sfl@izmirekonomi.edu.tr, stating which eligibility requirement they meet and providing the relevant supporting documentation by 13.09.2026 17:30 the latest.

ENG 101 and ENG 102

Who Is Eligible to Take the Exemption Exams?

Students who meet at least one of the following conditions are eligible to take the ENG 101 and ENG 102 exemption exams:

- Students who score 80 or above on our University’s Proficiency In English Exam (PIE),

- Students who are exempt from the English Preparatory Program with a score of CAE: B, PTE: 71, or TOEFL iBT: 84 or above,

- Students who have successfully completed a similar English course at another university but whose direct exemption was not approved due to differences in course content,

- Students whose native language is English; who are citizens of a country where English is an official language, or who were born in such a country and completed their secondary education at schools attended by citizens of that country; or who completed their secondary education at an institution where the language of instruction is 100% English,

- Students who successfully completed an English Preparatory Program at another higher education institution within the three years preceding the date of application, or who successfully passed the English Preparatory Program Exemption Exam of the relevant institution within the last three years.

Note: YDS and YÖKDİL scores are not accepted for eligibility to take the ENG 101 and ENG 102 exemption exams.

ING 101, ING 102, ING 105 and ING 106

Who Is Eligible to Take the Exemption Exams?

Students who meet at least one of the following conditions are eligible to take the relevant ING exemption exam(s):

- Students enrolled in programs where the language of instruction is Turkish who score 70.00 or above on the English Placement Exam,

- Students who have successfully completed a similar English course at another university but whose direct exemption was not approved due to differences in course content,

- Students whose native language is English; who are citizens of a country where English is an official language, or who were born in such a country and completed their secondary education at schools attended by citizens of that country; or who completed their secondary education at an institution where the language of instruction is 100% English,

- Students who successfully completed an English Preparatory Program at another higher education institution within the three years preceding the date of application, or who successfully passed the English Preparatory Program Exemption Exam of the relevant institution within the last three years.

Important

- Eligibility to take an exemption exam does not mean direct exemption from the course.

- The minimum passing grade for the exemption exam is 70 (CC).

- Exemption exams are offered only for first-year English courses and are administered at the beginning of each semester for the courses offered in that semester.
